Access Now, an international nonprofit that defends and extends the digital rights of users at risk around the world, hired me to draft a handbook on elections and internet shutdowns. The handbook explains how internet shutdowns undermine democratic elections and provides tips and recommendations for key actors to navigate shutdowns and understand and assess the extent to which an election taking place under a shutdown is free and fair. It is aimed at election observers, people on diplomatic missions, journalists, and human rights activists in particular. You can read the handbook on the Access Now website.
